Ms. Herning has had the priviledge of a 30 year and counting career in education working with children. She earned her BA in History from UCSB and a MS Credential from SJSU. After serving at risk students for 8 years in grades 1st-3rd in Franklin-McKinley USD in San Jose, Ca she embarked on her second career as a mother of 3 wonderful children. This led her to her third career as a home educator, and then as a home school teacher working with amazing home school students and their families for the past 15 years. She is a Reading Specialist, a teacher of ongoing homeschool classes, and leads and learns with students on educational tours. She is passionate about serving homeschool families.
Her favorite places to be are at the beach, in the 3rd row of a Broadway musical, an Opera, a concert, a professional basketball game or a cathedral.
“My children had the best time at One Stop this year! Days packed with history, science, stories, good friends and lots of laughter. Classes were well thought out with enriching activities and character development. My favorite part is that Theresa makes each child feel special and valued in her class.” ~Monique F.

"Theresa Herning is a fantastic and gifted teacher. She understands how to connect with the kids, and has a knack for hands-on science experiments, which is very helpful for homeschool parents who find it hard to fit that in. My daughter learned science thoroughly, and in a fun, engaging way, through Veronica’s instruction. Veronica is a fun, positive, and effective teacher, with a big heart for kids. ~Lisa Smith
"Thank you for being my teacher!" ~Millie
"Thank you for all you did this year in your class and for helping my daughter to grow in knowledge. Thank you for being so kind and loving with the kids. It truly has been a pleasure to have you as a teacher for K. this year!" ~Kristin
"Dear Mrs. Olson, You have been such a wonderful, great, and awesome Teacher!! This American Girl Class was Sooo fun. Thank you for being such a great teacher. ~Olivia
Students enjoy many "hands-on" activities including art, music, social studies, language arts, science, class projects, and much more!
Throughout the school year students will have the opportunity to attend field trips which are really off site classes. The students can experience trips to museums, and state parks, attend theater performances, and much more! This is another fun way to learn and have fun within our own community.
Ocassionally, we have special guest speakers that come to our One Stop Schoolhouse. They are business owners, park and museum docents, and those skilled in the performing arts field. It's a wonderful experience for the students to learn about careers within the community from people that enjoy teaching the students about science, music, interesting hobbies and the arts.
Students that choose to create exciting science fair projects, will have the opportunity to share them with the younger elementary students. They use the scientific method to test their hypotheses, and they have fun trying something new. Parents and students enjoy this exciting and educational event!
